Bio
Dr. Karin W. Handel graduated from the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine (Israel) in 2021. After
graduation, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Koret
School of Veterinary Medicine. Immediately after, she started a specialty ophthalmology internship
under the mentorship of Drs. Ron Ofri and Lionel Sebbag. During both internships she had the
opportunity to conduct research projects with the Koret ophthalmology team. She recently joined
the UC Davis team as a postdoctoral fellow at the MRLT lab, working under the supervision of Dr.
Sara Thomasy, studying corneal diseases and deep learning models. Dr. Handel is passionate about
her ophthalmology career becoming a clinician-scientist.
