October 2023: Inspiring Veterinary Scientists
Colleagues and friends,
Today we’re featuring a special program at the school that trains DVM students to also become veterinary scientists by earning a Ph.D. This supercharges the abilities of our DVM graduates to help find new medical insights or treatments.
In this episode, we meet two of our DVM/Ph.D. program alumni who are doing amazing work at the school. Dr. Brian Bird was just given the green light to start a groundbreaking human vaccine trial against the deadly disease Rift Valley fever.
Dr. Sara Thomasy is a professor of comparative ophthalmology who is advancing eye medicine to the benefit of both animals AND humans.
I think you’ll find this episode inspiring. Please be sure to forward it to any aspiring veterinarians you know, so they can imagine what they can do with a dual degree or by taking advantage of our other DVM program research training opportunities. These include our summer global program, the Students Training in Advanced Research (STAR) program, the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program, and others.
Faculty, staff and students: Don’t forget to sign up for the Halloween TG, which is on Friday, October 27 from 5–8 p.m. at the Gladys Valley Hall Patio. Bring your furry friends and come in your best Halloween outfits. Please register for the event by October 26!
Thanks for watching,
Mark
